But with widespread self-isolation impacting restaurants and our nation\u2019s food supply, our food culture has shifted within these last few months.<\/p>\n<p>For our fourth week of COVID-19 poll insights, we utilized our poll unit across a variety of news sites with U.S. audiences to discover how the pandemic has altered our readers\u2019 eating habits.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6478 lazy loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-1024x529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"529\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-1024x529.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-1024x529.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-768x397.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-1536x794.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-embed-B-2048x1058.jpg 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" data-was-processed=\"true\" \/><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cooking at home is trending among our readers:<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6447 lazy loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-1024x529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"529\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-1024x529.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-1024x529.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-768x397.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-1536x794.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-1-2048x1058.jpg 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" data-was-processed=\"true\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Though delivery apps are adapting to the times and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/food-delivery-services-grubhub-postmates-uber-eats-reacting-adapting-coronavirus-2020-3\">offering contact-free delivery<\/a>\u00a0as a method of keeping both drivers and customers safe, only 11 percent of respondents are ordering delivery more frequently. 52 percent of respondents are cooking more at home \u2014 one look at cleared supermarket shelves across the country points at this rise in home cooking. 37 percent of respondents report no change in their habits.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to snacking, 58 percent of respondents can\u2019t resist the allure of Oreos and potato chips. In fact, quarantine snacking is so common that many have dubbed the resulting weight gain the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/quarantine-weight-gain-why-you-shouldn-t-worry-about-it-t180022\">quarantine 15<\/a>.\u201d 42 percent of readers, however, report no change in snacking habits.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6448 lazy loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-1024x495.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"495\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-1024x495.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-1024x495.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-768x371.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-1536x742.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-2-2048x990.jpg 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" data-was-processed=\"true\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Though close to half of respondents say they haven\u2019t sought out comfort foods while in quarantine, 24 percent have found comfort in home cooking. Many publications have aided in the rise of home cooking by highlighting a variety of recipes for the curious to try, from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2020\/03\/9562888\/pantry-recipes-for-coronavirus\">pantry-friendly<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/bradjaphe\/2020\/03\/30\/easy-recipes-to-cook-at-home-during-covid19-coronavirus-quarantine-social-distancing\/\">chef-approved<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6449 lazy loaded\" src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-1024x529.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"529\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-1024x529.jpg\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-1024x529.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-768x397.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-1536x794.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Food-infographics-3-2048x1058.jpg 2048w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" data-was-processed=\"true\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>While some\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.wttw.com\/2020\/05\/01\/chicago-continuing-flatten-curve-city-officials\">major<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/18\/nyregion\/coronavirus-new-york-update.html\">U.S.<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/houston\/article\/COVID-19-curve-flattening-in-Houston-15206827.php\">cities<\/a>\u00a0are beginning to or have flattened the curve of infection rates, 68 percent of respondents don\u2019t believe the peak of the pandemic has passed just yet. In our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insticator.com\/insticator-insights-silver-linings\/\">last Insights blog<\/a>, we found that a majority of respondents (38 percent) believe the peak of the outbreak in the U.S. will pass in June or July.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, we briefly look forward to what dining out after social distancing and self-quarantine might look like. 54 percent of respondents are looking forward to dining out once restrictions are lifted, while a more hesitant 26 percent of respondents say no. Food industry professionals have predicted emptier dining rooms and a gradual \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/fwpro\/restaurants-after-covid19-coronavirus-chef-predictions\">trickle back<\/a>\u201d into dining out as people slowly grow less wary of crowded public spaces.<\/p>\n<p>How is your team gauging your readers\u2019 thoughts today?
